Praise from abroad

20 March 2010, Muscat: Dr. Patrick Humbert, an Ophthalmologist specialised in laser refractive surgery was recently in Muscat for a week long visit. During his stay, the French surgeon visited Muscat Eye Laser Center and watched Dr. Maria Clara Arbelaez perform two surgeries – Femto-LASIK and keratoconus.
Based in Metz, a city in the northeast of France, Dr. Humbert practices in Clinique Claude Bernard, a reputed private clinic. This has been Dr. Humbert’s first visit to Oman and he was all praise for the beautiful city and hospitality of the people. He has previously interacted with Dr. Maria Clara Arbelaez in international forums and was impressed with the papers she had presented. Once in Oman, he was keen to visit the centre and made a request to observe her perform surgeries.
“Dr. Maria Clara has presented many interesting papers in a number of seminars/ forums. Her skill and reputation are internationally recognised. It is obvious that a lot of thought has gone into the way the center is structured; the use of the latest technology is very impressive,” he said.
From a patient’s point of view, Dr. Humbert appreciates the way they are put at ease right from their first point of contact. “As soon as the patients enter, they are made to feel comfortable, a thorough examination is conducted by the experienced technicians and queries are clearly and precisely answered… A good center is a combination of the expertise of doctors, technology used and the personalised treatment of customers. This is one of the best eye care centers I have visited,” he added.
Jointly established by Sameer Al Awam and Dr. Maria Clara Arbelaez in April 2002, Muscat Eye Laser Center is Oman’s leading eye care centre specialising in refractive surgery using advanced technology and procedures. Centrally located in Qurum, the center has 2 fully equipped operating theatres, 6 consultation and meeting rooms, 6 diagnostic and 4 preparation rooms.
The specialist team is led by Dr. Maria Clara Arbelaez, an internationally recognised corneal transplant and refractive surgeon from Colombia with over 20 years of experience in Latin America, the Caribbean and the Middle East.

Muscat Eye Laser embraces new innovations in corneal transplant surgery

10 December 2011, Muscat: Muscat Eye Laser Center, the Sultanate’s leading eye-care clinic, is combining technological advances in corneal transplantation surgery, cutting-edge surgical techniques and superior in-house expertise to dramatically improve the quality of life for patients with corneal pathology. Until recently, the procedure of choice for most patients with severe diseased or damaged corneas was to undergo a full-thickness corneal transplant (also known as a penetrating keratoplasty), in which the entire cornea is replaced, even if only a portion of the cornea is diseased. While this procedure is still being carried out at Muscat Eye Laser Center for those who have severely damaged cornea, ophthalmologists at the Center have also mastered new innovative procedures that allow for the removal and replacement of only the affected layer of the corneal tissue. The upshot, says Dr. Juan G. Graviria, Scientific Director, is that patients now enjoy better outcomes, faster r...

Heartfelt letter from one of our Doctors

Have you wondered what it's like to work at Muscat Eye Laser Center?   On today's blog Dr. Dita Sekito tells us how her arrival was at Muscat Eye Laser Center and what she saw about the clinic that made her stay much longer that what she had planned.    “It was in the year 2006 that I had the opportunity to work abroad. I had this offer to work as a General Ophthalmologist in Oman. During that time, I did not even know where Oman is and that there was a country called Oman. I came for the interview unprepared and I was even not properly attired. The first thing that struck me was that the person who was going to interview me was the owner himself. The man I met was Mr. Sameer Al Awam. Little did I know that this person I met would play a great role for the next years of my life. The interview went well and in the afternoon Dr. Maria who is the medical director interviewed me. Right away after the interview, I searched the internet about Oman, Muscat Eye Las...
