Muscat Eye Laser Center wins coveted ISO certification

7 May 2011, Muscat: Muscat Eye Laser Center’s (MELC) credentials as a world-class provider of corrective eye care services now come reinforced by a stamp of approval from the globally recognised International Organisation of Standardisation (ISO).

Recently, the Sultanate’s leading eye-care services clinic was conferred the much-coveted ISO 9001-:2008 certification in a further demonstration of its unparalleled commitment to its patients. It builds on an earlier recognition, the ISO 9001:2000 certification, bestowed on the Center three years ago.

The latest certification attests to the Center’s stringent adherence to a quality management system that ensures the delivery of consistently superior eye-care services to the exacting standards demanded of ISO certified institutions. It follows an extensive evaluation of the clinic’s operating processes and management systems by a team of independent auditors who found the Center eminently deserving of an ISO certification.

The audit found Muscat Eye Laser Center to be in full compliance with ISO mandated quality management standards for the following specialist services: Laser Ophthalmic Services with Laser and Non-Laser Technologies for Surgical Treatments in Corneal and Refractory Surgery, including Diagnosis and Post-Operative Care, as well as Eye Consultations.

As an ISO 9001:2008 complaint facility, Muscat Eye Laser Center is affirming its longstanding commitment to delivering exceptional clinical results with an unmatched degree of quality and safety. Indeed, Muscat Eye Laser Center has long had in place pre and post-operative systems and processes that are consistent, safe and effective. With an ISO certification, patients have the added assurance that their safety is ensured by external regulation from a system that is trusted worldwide.

Significantly, Muscat Eye Laser Center is the first eye-care clinic in the Sultanate to have been bestowed this prestigious certification. Combined with its team of top-flight corrective vision practitioners and state-of-the-art clinical facilities, the certification effectively places the Center in an exclusive league of renowned eye-care clinics operating in the region.

Jointly established by Sameer Al Awam and Dr. Maria Clara Arbelaez in April 2002, Muscat Eye Laser Center is Oman’s leading eye care centre specialising in refractive surgery using advanced technology and procedures. Centrally located in Qurum, the center has two fully equipped operating theatres, six consultation and meeting rooms, six diagnostic and four preparation rooms.

The specialist team is led by Dr. Maria Clara Arbelaez, an internationally recognised corneal transplant and refractive surgeon from Colombia with over 20 years of experience in Latin America, the Caribbean and the Middle East. Muscat Eye Laser embraces new innovations in corneal transplant surgery

10 December 2011, Muscat: Muscat Eye Laser Center, the Sultanate’s leading eye-care clinic, is combining technological advances in corneal transplantation surgery, cutting-edge surgical techniques and superior in-house expertise to dramatically improve the quality of life for patients with corneal pathology. Until recently, the procedure of choice for most patients with severe diseased or damaged corneas was to undergo a full-thickness corneal transplant (also known as a penetrating keratoplasty), in which the entire cornea is replaced, even if only a portion of the cornea is diseased. While this procedure is still being carried out at Muscat Eye Laser Center for those who have severely damaged cornea, ophthalmologists at the Center have also mastered new innovative procedures that allow for the removal and replacement of only the affected layer of the corneal tissue. The upshot, says Dr. Juan G. Graviria, Scientific Director, is that patients now enjoy better outcomes, faster r
